On New Beginnings and The Joy of Poetry
I can’t speak for anyone else, but my own life is going through a transition period. But as I consider the past several years and everything going on in the world, it wouldn’t surprise me if this situation is pretty familiar to many.
Over the past year, my wife and I have experienced what feels like a gamut of obstacles, stresses, and disappointments, and somewhere in the middle of all of this chaos, I decided to reopen Jarfly for submissions for its third issue after a lengthy hiatus. When I began the editorial work of putting this issue together, part of me worried that it would become one more thing I couldn’t carry or keep up with. However, putting this issue together has been a joy and a refreshment. I hope that as you read it, you will enjoy these poems as much as I have.
But I think that this is the ultimate power of poetry and creative writing. The past several years have changed how we have lived and how we see the world, but somewhere in poems we find something firm. Something consistent. And it is this cornerstone that brings me back to the editorial process of running a litmag. Our words and our perspectives matter and they are worth sharing.
Thank you.
