tomorrows don't last forever
this is me
crouching in the river with
a little plastic baggie upturning
rocks in search of fish
i am searching for tomorrow, hidden
beneath bellies of scale and
bulging fish eyes; i am
seizing tomorrow’s me within
my palm--glowing&gold&
poking at the glass
of a fish tank.
this is me
laying on the hillside and
connecting wintertime stars
with my fingers
i am searching for tomorrow, between
invisible lines and
fading stars; i am
seizing tomorrow’s wish in
my stomach--small&lovely&
made upon
a shooting star.
this is me&you
catching icecream on our tongues
and sweating into the breeze sitting
close enough to touch but
not quite
i am searching for tomorrow, in
the gleaming outline of our hands
in the sunset; i am
seizing tomorrow’s you between
my ribs— warm&beautiful&
never meant to last.
