When Life Gives You Lemons

Cut the lemons into quarters.
Squeeze the juice into every
open wound. The acid will feel
like the salt of the Dead Sea
stinging every cuticle cuts
because you pick at the finger
skin around nails until it shreds.
Some seas don't flow into oceans.
You want to feel the piercing pain.
When it burns, at least you know
that you are still among the living.

At the Chuck E. Cheese's

I remember the last
first time we came here.
I was pregnant
then as now.
I wore a horrid blue
polo maternity shirt
that I have since tossed.
I saw in a machine
to take a picture of
my bulging belly.
That was welcome
relief from baby shopping.
This time, my only purchases
a few onesies.
I need to make a list.
At the doctor's office,
she says I look worried.
Sometimes, I don't feel
him moving. She says
an infant in the womb
is like a newborn.
They sleep a lot.
At the Chuck E. Cheese's,
everything is light and sound.
